Anyone may be assessed from the age of four, although it is highly unlikely that Dyslexia will be diagnosed in a child below Year 2. Individuals can either be referred by their school, college or employer, or they can self-refer. We are happy to assess anyone who feels the need to be assessed. If you are a parent who considers that their child is not progressing as well as they should, or if you are an individual who believes that you have difficulty learning certain things and you would like to know exactly where your difficulties lie and ways in which you can be supported to enable you to learn and achieve your full potential, then an assessment is a good idea.
A formal assessment is necessary if you would like to ascertain whether or not you or your child/children are eligible for Access Arrangements such as extra time in external examinations. These arrangements are designed to provide a candidate with an equal and fair opportunity, given their difficulties, to display their ability.
A formal assessment is necessary if you are intending to study a higher education course and you would like to apply for a Disabled Student Allowance (DSA).
